His critique of America’s toxic racial heritage continues to enrich and inform our notions of patriotism, self determination, white supremacy, and imperialism. The quote embedded in this painting speaks to the problem of claiming white innocence in a culture of white dominance and power. Jimmy continues to enlighten us beyond the grave. His words are light and lightning at the same time. He was a true American hero.
