There are certain folks that find true love and companionship for life. Not the stuff of fairy tales or Hollywood but a love borne of sacrifice, forgiveness, compassion, empathy, gentleness, and understanding. Black folks—especially working class black folks—rarely get represented in the mainstream in this way. Here, I try to inject this painting with that energy. The deconstructed background bespeaks the resilience. The gold leaf highlight bespeaks the divine nature of their love and companionship.
