The struggle to be heard. To be affirmed as a human being. To be left alone to thrive. Is very real. And as urgent today as it was 100 years ago. We needn’t lose hope. Or inspiration. Or momentum. Why? Because we have been here before and survived. As the negro spiritual goes: “Nobody told me that road would be easy but I don’t believe he brought me this far to leave me.”
