Portraits are a gateway to the soul. These paintings in the “Profile” series will offer a glimpse into my creative process. Though I often use references for my paintings, I rarely, if ever, seek to reproduce what I see. Rather the goal is to reproduce what I feel or, more pointedly, what the reference inspires me to feel. And that feeling often changes as the portrait emerges. References of babies morph into mothers, the elderly into children, realism into abstractions. It is wholly unpredictable, always intimidating, and spiritually mind-blowing.
