I am constantly striving to capture the energy of my subjects, whether they be human or otherwise. The energy of a thing is, in effect, its story. And stories are always layered and complex—at least the stories that grab me and I seek to convey through my art. The beautiful child in this painting is noticeably reflective; perhaps even a bit sad. Her innocence and youth make her mood all the more striking. Her face is literally the culmination of generations; she wears those generations on every aspect of her being. Her script is unwritten; her future uncertain. She could be your daughter or mine. She is your daughter and mine. She is the golden child.
