Bronzeville Boys

Limited edition giclée print on archival canvas. This print comes in two sizes. There is also the option of an embellished print at 40x48. This print will be embellished with acrylic paint and a special textured varnish. Each embellished print will be unique as I will personally add paint to the canvas. So expect variations.

This painting was inspired by the iconic photo taken in Bronzeville Chicago on Easter Sunday in 1941. The original photo was in black and white. I tried to capture the energy of the photo by adding color and texture to mark the distinguishing characteristics of these beautiful and impeccably dressed black boys. To my mind, each of these beautiful young men had a unique story, a unique vision of their lives. What makes this painting iconic and how their uniqueness and, indeed style, shines through with such overwhelming humanity. Hopefully I did justice to this incredible portrait.
